Our Mission Statment

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere to develop affordable housing for God’s people in need so that they can fulfill their dream of becoming homeowners.

Our Purpose

The purpose of Habitat for Humanity is to partner with other community groups and organizations to construct homes for families who otherwise could not afford simple decent housing:
• By working in cooperation with God’s people in need to create a better living environment.
• By exemplifying the gospel of Jesus Christ through loving acts.
• By enabling a growing number of people from all backgrounds to participate in our ministry.

History of Habitat in Richmond

Habitat for Humanity took root in Richmond in 1990. Since that time, more than 50 homes have been built and sold to partner families. Habitat finished seven homes in 2006 and the groundbreaking for the 50th house took place in September 2007 and was dedicated in May 2008. That house was the 15th house built in the Faus Place subdivision on South “O” Street.
Over 3,000 hours are contributed by volunteers for each Habitat home built. Hundreds of additional hours are contributed by volunteers on various committees and in the Habitat office. HFH of Greater Richmond is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, dedicated to serving low-income members of the community.
Habitat’s work reflects its values, its commitment to the community, and its volunteers’ faith.
